What should your drive be made of?
Asphalt paving is the heart of the business, with tar and chip, stone, sealcoating and repair alongside it. Pick a surface: every photograph here is a job Bob's crew finished.
Asphalt paving
Hot mix laid over a stone base built up and rolled in layers, so it carries a loaded truck as well as the family car. The one most people picture when they say a new driveway.
Liquid asphalt with stone pressed into it, so the drive has the colour and grip of stone without the loose gravel. Pick the stone and you pick the colour: deep red, warm tan or grey.
A coat of sealer over existing asphalt that keeps water out of the small cracks before a freeze opens them up. On the Shore, freeze and thaw does more damage than traffic.
Cut out the soft spot, rebuild the base under it, and patch it level, or lay a fresh overlay across the whole drive. If a repair will do, Bob says so instead of selling a new drive.
Most of the job is done before the asphalt shows up.
Dig out the soft ground. Grade it so water leaves the property. Build the stone base in layers and roll every one. Get that right and the surface stays flat for years; get it wrong and nothing laid on top can save it.
01
The base
Stone, set to grade and compacted along the whole run.
02
The hot mix
Laid while it is hot, edge to edge.
03
The roller
Rolled until it is tight, then taped off to cure.
Low ground or a washed-out shoulder to build up first? Bob brings in topsoil and fill dirt too.
Where we work
From Kent Island to Ocean City, and over the line.
Everything runs out of the yard on Reliance Road, where four state routes meet in the south corner of Caroline County. Same crew, same free estimate and same two year warranty in every town.
Churches, stores, apartment communities and mobile home parks. A lot that takes delivery trucks gets a deeper base than a driveway, and the work is phased section by section so the property stays open while it is paved. Then striped: bays, arrows, accessible spaces.

Bob Harrison, owner
You talk to the man who will pave it.
Born and raised on the Shore, third generation in the trade, running his own crew since 1997. He comes out, walks the drive, and gives you one clear number before anything starts.
Yes. Bob comes out, looks at the job in person and gives you one clear number before anything starts. There is no obligation.
Is Robert and Son Paving licensed?
Yes. The business holds Maryland Home Improvement Commission license #74385 and has been accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 2018 with an A+ rating.
Is there a warranty on the work?
Every job carries a two year warranty. Same family, same town, same phone number, so it is an easy promise to keep.
Where do you work?
Out of Federalsburg across Caroline, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico and Worcester counties in Maryland, and over the line into Sussex and Kent counties in Delaware, from Seaford down to Rehoboth Beach. There is no extra charge for the towns further out.
Do you repair driveways, or only build new ones?
Both. Asphalt repair, crack filling, resurfacing and sealcoating are all regular work. If the honest answer is that a repair will do, that is what Bob tells you.
Can you pave a parking lot without closing the business?
Yes. Commercial work is phased section by section and planned around your hours, so the property stays open while the crew is there.
What makes a driveway last?
The part nobody photographs: digging out the soft material, grading so water leaves the property, and building the stone base in compacted layers for the weight it will carry. Get that right and the surface stays flat for years.
Start with a photo of the drive.
